The Luminus Network, Inc is a non-profit located in Columbia, Maryland that empowers immigrants, refugees, asylees and other individuals and families with legal immigration services. The Luminus Legal department has been newly re-opened to assist legal clients and it’s an exciting time to join the team. We are looking for team members that support Luminus’ Vision of a community that welcomes new American neighbors, values their cultures, understands and addresses their needs, celebrates their achievements and elevates their voices.

The Immigration Paralegal provides day-to-day support to our clients through:

  • Intake screenings
  • Communications
  • Creating, maintaining, and closing client files
  • Assisting with the preparation of applications and document submissions
  • Collecting contract process and fees
  • Meeting deadlines as prescribed by courts and governmental agencies.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, in office, reporting to the Legal Director.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Follow policies and procedures for case management and matters
  • Conduct Intake Screenings and regular client meetings
  • Communicating with clients.
  • Coordinate with clients on document acquisition for affirmative applications and case matters.
  • Preparing applications and petitions for immigration or citizenship
  • Supporting legal clinic events
  • Tracking and summarizing data related to clients served and effectiveness of the program and events.
  • Collaborating with other Luminus programs to ensure clients have access to additional non-legal services.
  • Attending information and training sessions to remain up to date on current immigration law.

In addition to the skills above, the Immigration Paralegal must be creative and flexible in meeting the needs of clients in today’s political and COVID19 environment and excel as a problem solver, giving specific attention to the protection and confidentiality needs of the immigrants served.

Qualifications:

  • 1 years of immigration paralegal experience; experience in legal non-profit(s) a plus.
  • Spanish fluency required; multi-lingual ability preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills; attention to detail a must.
  • Ability to think creatively, take initiative, and help implement structures and programs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and database management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Paralegal Certification
  • Working Knowledge of Docketwise

Compensation: $22.00-$24.00 per hour /40 hours week
