We are currently seeking a Legal Specialist to Join our organization. As the Legal Specialist, you will be responsible for the coordination and response for Civil Subpoenas and Writs of Garnishments. You'll ensure internal processes conform with federal and state laws. You'll monitor, processes and acts as the subject matter legal expert on bankruptcy, probate and collection related items. You'll assist as a liaison between legal agencies/third part vendors, and provides guidance/assistance to staff and external members. Contributes to organizational/departmental projects initiatives and process efficiencies/improvements.
What you'll do:
- Manage the deceased member work queue and open estate claims as needed. Contact Personal Representatives, Attorneys and family member as needed. Partner with the Special Accounts Department on deceased member accounts with loan balances on next steps.
- Provide legal guidance to the Bankruptcy Specialist related to bankruptcy cases. Act as the Bankruptcy Specialists backup. Communicates with bankruptcy attorney’s as needed.
- Receive service of process including summons in civil suits, and civil subpoenas. Prepares attorney demand letters, as well as responds to civil garnishments and civil subpoenas while working with other personnel to obtain information for responses. Maintains accurate and complete files; follows up on pending legal actions and dates.
- Respond to our collection attorney requests for additional information on legal accounts. Prepare documents for legal cases on collection related accounts and demand letters on collection accounts
- Receive and process Civil Subpoena’s and Summons. Interaction with member and attorney’s may be needed.
What you'll need:
- Three to five years of similar or related experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Business or Law.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Proficient in English both written and spoken; Knowledge of legal and court procedures for recurring legal events;
- Ability to communicate effectively with members, opposing parties, counsel and court personnel.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills required; proficient in Microsoft Office and all internal systems as affiliated with the department;
- Experience in multi-tasking, strong attention to detail, meeting deadlines, dealing with sensitive information, and problem resolution while providing exceptional internal and external customer service.
- Must have working knowledge of regulations and keep up to date on changes.
