Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Attorney to join our legal team. This position will play a key role in providing legal support across various functions, with a focus on litigation support, compliance, and advising on legal matters relevant to our operations. The ideal candidate will have some courtroom experience, strong research and writing skills, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal analysis, research, and written opinions on a wide range of issues affecting the organization.
  • Represent the organization in court proceedings, administrative hearings, mediations, or settlement conferences as needed.
  • Prepare, review, and file pleadings, motions, discovery documents, and other court-related materials.
  • Support internal departments with contract reviews, legal risk assessments, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel on active litigation or legal proceedings.
  • Draft and revise internal policies to ensure alignment with current laws and organizational objectives.
  • Assist with investigations and respond to subpoenas, complaints, and other legal inquiries.
  • Stay informed of legal trends, statutes, and regulations affecting the organization’s operations.
  • Train staff or leadership on legal issues, best practices, and emerging compliance topics.
  • Handle other legal matters assigned by the General Counsel or Legal Director.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in [Insert State]; must be in good standing.
  • 1–3+ years of legal experience, preferably including courtroom exposure such as hearings, motion practice, or trials.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and a professional, solutions-oriented demeanor.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative team player who is comfortable working across departments.
  • Commitment to integrity, confidentiality, and ethical practice.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in litigation, administrative law, labor/employment, or regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with credit union, financial services, or nonprofit legal environments.
  • Prior in-house counsel or public-sector experience is a plus.
