Purpose:

The Vice President Tax and Senior Counsel will be responsible for the Company’s analysis and proactive response to tax law developments, including lobbying approaches, coordinating on tax modeling, active engagement with industry groups, and assisting with implementation of compliance for new tax requirements. This leader will partner closely with the broader Athene and Apollo tax, finance, government relations and legal teams to develop an approach that takes into account legal, regulatory, accounting, capital and all other relevant considerations.


Accountabilities:

  • Engage with business units to proactively develop tax advocacy strategies and responses to federal, state and international legislative and regulatory tax proposals that take into account business priorities and impacts
  • Track legislative, regulatory and other tax developments that impact our business model, and provide timely communications to internal stakeholders on timeline, considerations and proposed responses
  • Coordinate with the Tax Controller on tax modeling work to identify and quantify tax impacts of tax advocacy strategies and new tax proposals to help shape our approach
  • Work closely with the Head of Tax to finalize advocacy responses and coordinate with Government Relations team on lobbying approaches
  • Represent Athene at various industry groups and actively participate in committees and working groups to shape analysis and positions with respect to tax developments that could impact Athene and our industry
  • Evaluate tax proposals and advise the Tax Department to ensure accurate compliance and risk mitigation with respect to new requirements
  • Consider impacts of new tax proposals on possible changes to the Company’s structure or product lines


Qualifications and Experience:

  • 10+ years of public and/or industry experience with exposure to financial reporting
  • Attorney or Certified Public Accountant is required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to independently and proactively identify and implement solutions for complex issues
  • Proven success in rapidly changing and scaling environments
  • Experience in life insurance, annuities, or financial services is preferred

$192,400.00 - $288,600.00 USD Annual


Annual Salary for this role is market competitive.  Actual salary for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.  Depending on the role, a discretionary bonus plan or variable sales incentive may be included.
