Job Description:

This OAJA-represented position will be filled at either the Assistant Attorney General or Senior Assistant Attorney General level, salary range $8,842.00 - $17,168.00 per month, depending primarily on years of legal practice experience and other factors. Employees who are Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) participating members will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay a 6% employee contribution to PERS; the salary range noted reflects base salary only.  For a partial list of our benefits, you can learn here.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Criminal Justice Division of the Oregon Department of Justice conducts specialized local, state, and federal criminal investigations and prosecutions and provides highly trained and experienced special agents, prosecutors, and analysts to fight crime across Oregon; the Division is the only agency in Oregon that has the unique ability to combine the skills of all three disciplines in a single agency to comprehensively address crime in our communities. The Division also provides outreach and training to citizens, victim service providers, and members of the law enforcement community to help ensure that Oregonians receive​ the highest level of service from the criminal justice system. ​

Currently, the Criminal Justice Division is seeking applicants to consider for the position of Assistant Attorneys General to serve as our Elder Abuse Resource Prosecutor. The selected attorney will be responsible for (in part):

  • Providing technical assistance and case support to Oregon prosecutors;
  • Working with investigators to ensure thorough investigation prior to prosecution in elder abuse and other cases;
  • Developing and maintaining statewide resources on elder abuse case law;
  • Keeping the Elder Abuse Section of the Oregon Department of Justice District Attorney Resource (ODARN) website current;
  • Developing and maintaining publications;
  • Developing and presenting relevant trainings;
  • Facilitating outreach and coordination with Oregon and national programs dedicated to combating elder abuse; and
  • Prosecuting elder abuse and other cases.

Required

  • Active member of the Oregon State Bar in good standing on the effective date of appointment.
  • Extensive knowledge of elder abuse law and significant experience litigating cases.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people from a variety of disciplines.
  • Excellent organization, analytical, oral presentation, and writing skills.
  • Willing and able to travel statewide, sometimes overnight, in order to meet case, training, and outreach needs.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to public service.
  • Able to successfully clear a comprehensive criminal background investigation and reference checks.

Requested/Desired 

  • The ideal candidate will have prosecutorial experience in a district attorney’s office.
  • Experience prosecuting financial cases and cases with vulnerable victims.
  • Experience prosecuting homicide cases, and directing large-scale grand jury and criminal investigations.
  • Experience training attorneys and police officers.
