Responsibilities
- Serves as Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 student visa program, Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1 exchange visitor program, and Training Program Liaison (TPL) for J-1 alien physicians sponsored by the Educational Commission on Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
- Processes a wide range of international student and scholar casework (F-1 students, J-1 research scholars, J-1 alien physicians, H-1B, and on occasion TN employees. Monitors ongoing compliance with federal regulations.
- Cross-train OIS advisors in the B1, F1, J1, TN visa and in global health education process.
- Outline team goals and progress of goals
- Mentors’ immigration advisors on both student and scholar issues.
- Manage Outside Legal Counsel invoicing/payment
- Administrative duties, including ordering materials for staff, submitting work orders, NAFSA memberships and other related type of services.
- Oversees SEVIS management with regard to reconciliation of internal and external databases to facilitate federal reporting.
- Co-manage processing alien physicians sponsored by ECFMG.
- Oversees maintenance of Terra Dotta, to include reviewing, investigating, and resolving discrepancies with the support of IMS.
- Monitors proposed regulatory/policy changes and list serves to summarize this information for OIS staff and stakeholders.
- Gathers information about best practices in the area of international student and scholar services and designs and implements process improvements to enhance the efficiency of the OIS advisors.
- Will supervise OIS advisors, including training, mentoring, project management, work schedules, timekeeper, assist with hiring and interviewing
- Maintains active involvement in professional associations in order to build expertise in the field and develop awareness of best practices.
- Oversees OIS website and intranet, including developing and updating content relevant to international students/scholars and department liaisons.
- Initiates and generates reports as necessary.
- Develops workshops and resources to educate department liaisons on immigration requirements and timelines.
- Assists the OIS team with the design and execution of programs and events that promote and support international education, cultural exchange, and cultural adjustment.
- Represents OIS at various AFSA and University-wide committees and forums on an as-needed basis.
- Provides leadership and oversight of OIS advisors.
- Acts as a mentor by providing immigration support to the OIS advisors in all immigration related matters.
- Processes immigration casework advise international students, scholars, researchers, faculty and administrators as needed.
- Works directly with director and assistant director in supporting administrative efforts and strategic initiatives by identifying gaps in compliance and service delivery, developing innovative solutions and responsive programming, and assisting with evaluation and assessment of unit objectives.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
