Job Description

At Legal Services of North Florida, we help remove barriers to justice by connecting underserved communities with the legal support, information, and resources they need.

As the Medical-Legal Partnership Attorney, you will lead a collaborative initiative that connects patients with civil legal services through referrals from healthcare providers who identify legal issues affecting their patients’ health and well-being. By working alongside healthcare providers and community partners, this attorney will help address health-harming legal issues, improve access to justice, and support better health outcomes for underserved communities.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

  • Provide Legal Advice and Representation: Interview clients, assess their legal needs, explain available options, and provide advice, advocacy, and representation through negotiation, litigation, and other appropriate legal remedies. Maintain meaningful communication with clients and keep them informed throughout their cases.

  • Lead the Medical-Legal Partnership: Work closely with healthcare professionals to identify and address legal issues affecting patient health, coordinate referrals, and connect clients with additional legal and community resources.

  • Conduct Outreach and Education: Develop and lead outreach initiatives that educate patients, healthcare partners, and the broader community about available legal services and relevant legal rights and responsibilities.

  • Monitor Program Outcomes and Compliance: Maintain accurate case records, track outcomes and project activities, oversee appropriate grant and funding compliance, and contribute to reports that demonstrate the project’s progress and impact.

  • Supervise and Develop Staff: Provide guidance and supervision to the project paralegal, support ongoing professional development, and help ensure effective coordination of casework and project activities.

  • Support Organizational and Community Impact: Stay informed about relevant legal developments, identify opportunities to improve client outcomes, and participate in approved initiatives that advance access to justice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree

  • Admission to the Florida Bar, or admission in another jurisdiction with eligibility to practice under applicable out-of-state practice rules

  • Three (3) years of experience practicing law

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of civil legal issues affecting health and well-being, including housing, public benefits, health insurance, and family law.

  • Experience building partnerships with healthcare providers, community organizations, and other service providers.

  • Experience conducting community outreach, developing educational resources, or providing training on legal rights and services.

  • Experience managing grants, tracking program outcomes, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements.

Compensation:

The starting salary for this position is $78,000, which applies to candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and have no additional work experience. Candidates with further qualifying experience can expect a higher salary offer based on their work experience. Attorneys with 10 or more years of experience practicing law can expect a starting salary of $91,800 or higher, and those with 20 or more years of experience practicing law can expect a starting salary of $116,300 or higher.
