Position Overview
Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in a dynamic and fast-paced legal department? Autodesk's Legal, Government Affairs & Public Policy (LGAPP) team is seeking a Sr Manager, Legal Operations to drive operational excellence and innovation.
Reporting directly into the senior leadership team of LGAPP, you will lead a high-performing team responsible for managing legal technology platforms, project management, firm & vendor management, and knowledge management functions.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies within the department. You will develop and implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency, empowering the LGAPP team to effectively contribute to Autodesk's success.
You will report to our Vice President and Assistant General Counsel. This position is a hybrid role based in Denver, Portland, or San Francisco.
Responsibilities
Operational Excellence
Manage a high-performing legal operations team, including hiring, training, and mentoring to ensure the team's success and professional growth
Lead project management services for LGAPP
Identify, develop and implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency
Serve as a thought leader within LGAPP, driving best practices, innovation, and continuous improvement across the organization
Design, monitor, and report on key metrics to identify department successes and opportunities for operational enhancement and efficiency
Legal Technology
Develop strategic technology roadmaps and oversee legal technology and programs to drive efficiency, automate and optimize processes, and streamline workflows in LGAPP
Drive the identification, implementation and adoption of legal technology tools and programs
Serve as liaison to IT department, Finance, Procurement, etc. regarding technical support of the department technology and integration with company systems
Support the administration, optimization, and ongoing support and troubleshooting of legal technology solutions
Firm & Vendor Management
Oversee full lifecycle of outside counsel management, including onboarding, billing, evaluation, and optimization
Collaborate closely with the Finance team on budgeting, tracking, forecasting and reporting, identifying actionable insights and analytics from spend within the LGAPP team
Maintain and optimize use of e-billing software, providing updates and training to members of the department as necessary
Maintain billing guidelines and monitoring compliance (e.g., consistent discounting and/or alternative fee arrangements, staffing metrics, etc.)
Develop and implement resources to empower department members to optimize firm and vendor selection, including department guidelines for selection and utilization of firms and vendors
Knowledge Management
Oversee knowledge management, document policies and procedures, conduct trainings and disseminate and maintain institutional knowledge
Implement strategies to capture and leverage institutional knowledge, facilitating knowledge sharing within LGAPP and with other departments
Minimum Qualifications
5 to 7+ years of relevant experience managing an operations team or function, preferably within a corporate legal department performing a similar function
In-house experience needed in a mid-to-large size global company
Strong functional Legal knowledge a plus
Exceptional communication and influencing skills
Strong technical and project management skills
Experience managing, motivating and developing a team of professionals
Change management skills
Detail-oriented with a passion for process improvement
Extremely comfortable with technology and familiarity with legal technology programs
Entrepreneurial mindset with experience building and implementing systems
Passionate about testing new ideas and innovating to drive results
Ability to work collaboratively with employees at all levels in a global organization
Sound judgment; strong critical-thinking and analytical skills
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
Extremely high personal and professional integrity
Self-motivated team player with ability to drive projects, identify and resolve legal and business issues, and earn confidence and cooperation of business partners
