  • Compensation – We support transparency, equity, and fairness in our compensation programs and provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range, based on data-driven market analysis, for each job posting. While it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role in Washington, DC (Headquarters) is $77,700 - $113,200 per year. Team members may also be eligible for performance-based discretionary awards.

  • Hybrid work option – Staff will be assigned to the Washington, DC (Headquarters) office. Staff can choose to live and work from anywhere within the United States but will be required to commute to their assigned office or location for occasional intentional gatherings or meetings at the frequency required by their supervisor. Travel to an assigned office or location for commuting purposes will not be considered reimbursable business travel, unless otherwise required by state law. Business travel is reimbursable in an amount not exceeding the cost to travel from the assigned office or location, unless otherwise required by state law.

Role Summary

The PCAOB has a full-time, regular position for a Paralegal in the Office of the General Counsel. This key role requires a proactive person who thrives in a multi-faceted professional environment. In addition to providing paralegal and document management support to attorneys in the Office of the General Counsel, this position will support the attorneys and staff in the Office of the Secretary in carrying out their responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating aspects of the Board's open and closed meetings and assist in supporting the administration of other Board processes (including, for example, seeking unanimous written consent through a “seriatim” process);

  • Assist in preparing and maintaining records of Board action, including Board minutes and approval records, in issuing of Board releases, and in preparing notices and formal Board documents to firms, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, state boards of accountancy, and other regulators;

  • Assist in handling all aspects of document management for the Office of the General Counsel and maintaining all records in accordance with retention policies;

  • Assist in preparing productions of documents;

  • Oversee the process of seeking Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) protection for submissions to government agencies;

  • Assist in developing and maintaining tools, resources, and training materials to support the Office of the General Counsel, as well as the Board’s corporate governance;

  • Support attorneys  in their legal and other research;

  • Cite-check and proofread legal briefs and inter-departmental documents using the Bluebook® and other style reference guides;

  • Maintain high standards of confidentiality with respect to all matters and documents;

  • Assist in coordinating Office of the General Counsel staff meetings and preparation of presentation materials; and

  • Ensure high level of accuracy in all details.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required;

  • Paralegal certificate and/or minimum of 2+ years equivalent legal experience required;

  • Strong technical skills, including willingness to learn new platforms and programs;

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office® and .pdf editing software;

  • Experience with Lexis® and Westlaw®;

  • Strong cite-checking skills and working knowledge of the Bluebook®;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;

  • Solid time management, organization, and prioritization skills;

  • Ability to meet deadlines and make effective decisions; and

  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to multi-task, juggle priorities, work effectively under pressure, and be flexible.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with PACER or CourtLink®; and

    • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint®.
