As a Managing Court Reporter, you will lead and inspire a dedicated staff, overseeing all aspects of planning, assigning, and reviewing their work while driving exceptional employee performance. This is an at-will managerial position. The Trial Court Employment Protection and Governance Act (SB 2140) authorizes the Court to exclude managerial employees from the employment protection provisions of the Act subject to meet and confer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule Management: Direct the scheduling of Court Reporters to ensure coverage for courtroom proceedings.
- Performance Monitoring: Evaluate and monitor work plans, processes, and systems to meet court goals and service expectations.
- Selection and Training: Participate in the selection, orientation, training, and development of Court Reporters, ensuring compliance with education requirements.
- Performance Management: Establish performance requirements, monitor performance, provide coaching, and take disciplinary action as needed.
- Work Environment: Work with staff to create a high-performance, service-oriented work environment and promote positive employee relations.
- Policy and Procedure Development: Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with laws and enhance service.
- Transcripts and Records Management: Monitor the preparation of transcripts, oversee the maintenance and storage of notes and records, ensuring accuracy, security, and confidentiality.
TELEWORK OPPORTUNITIES
This position is eligible for occasional telework following an initial training period.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet the following minimum requirements at the time of application:
- A current Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) license issued by the Court Reporters Board of California; -AND-
- Five years of experience at the level of a Court Reporter with realtime experience.
Note: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess the following desirable qualifications:
- Experience supervising court reporters.
- Experience working in a large court environment.
- Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR).
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in public administration, business administration, management, or a closely related field.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
