Attorney with strong patent prosecution education and experience. Will be skilled at drafting and prosecuting patent applications (both US and OUS originating), identifying patentable subject matter, harvesting inventions from research disclosures, collaborating with technology and business personnel to develop and to execute patent filing and prosecution strategies and working well in a team-oriented environment. Experience with patentability and freedom to operate studies and analyses and IP-related agreements (e.g., confidentiality agreements, JDAs) is preferred. Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interfacing regularly with scientists and engineers to identify patentable subject matter and to develop patent applications.
- Drafting and prosecuting patent applications for a global patent portfolio (significant portion of the role).
- Collaborating with both business and technology partners as well as colleagues in other departments within Eastman Legal to develop and to implement IP strategy and to address IP issues having cross-functional implications.
- Working with IP leadership and client organizations to determine appropriate freedom to operate and patentability studies and strategies.
- Drafting and negotiating agreements related to intellectual property and confidentiality.
A Juris Doctor of Law is required with experience with patent prosecution. Must be a member of a state bar. Must be registered as patent attorney with USPTO.
Preferred:
Technical background in chemistry or chemical engineering, with chemistry or engineering Ph.D being a plus.
Significant patent prosecution experience.
Excellent English written and oral communications skills.
Ability to multi-task and to collaborate (in writing and verbally) across all levels and functions of the organization.
