Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Victim Witness Assistant
LOCATION: District Attorney’s Office, Cleveland County Courthouse
STATUS: Part-time
SALARY: $14.00 per hour
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The purpose of this position is to provide direct support to victims of crime through each stage of the Juvenile Justice System. Victim Witness Assistants act as a liaison between the Assistant District Attorney and the victims involved in the criminal case prosecuted by the District Attorney. This position is required to maintain and document direct contact with victims/witnesses and keep them informed of their rights and the status of their case while also offering ongoing emotional support. The employee will assess the needs of victims and offer referrals for resources when appropriate.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Work experience in victimization, community services, criminal justice and/or related field is preferred
Excellent work ethics and communication skills – both written and oral.
Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
Ability to remain calm with people in crisis.
Superb judgment, objectivity and analytical skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and disassociate one's self from the daily review of graphic crime reports and materials.
Adaptability, dependability, and excellent coping skills.
Ability to professionally interact with the public, law enforcement and office staff.
Knowledge of current office technologies including but not limited to Teams, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
High school graduate or greater
