This position is from 7/1/2025 - 6/30/2026 


Center for Family Life in Sunset Park (CFLSP), a nationally-recognized social service program in Sunset Park Brooklyn, is seeking a full-time Immigration Navigator/Workshop Leader to work in our Immigration Legal Support Center, (formerly ActionNYC) a program in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) providing free legal assistance to immigrants. The Immigration Navigator will provide pro se paralegal assistance and workshops on emergency preparedness/guardianship planning to immigrants in Sunset Park and throughout New York City under the supervision of an attorney. The Legal Navigator will be member of our Special Initiative for New Arrivals team which provides benefits enrollment, employment services and legal assistance to new immigrants. This is an excellent position for anyone who would like to prepare for an application to law school or to advance their career in paralegal work. 


I. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, but are not limited to 

  • Provide pro se assistance to new immigrants eligible for relief including Asylum, Temporary Protected Status, Work Authorization, Special Immigration Juvenile Status, among others under the supervision of an attorney 
  • Conduct comprehensive, trauma informed intakes for eligibility for immigration relief 
  • Assist clients to obtain the documents necessary for applications 
  • Coordinate and facilitate two workshops per month on emergency preparedness and guardianship planning utilizing a standard curriculum 
  • Work closely with the Special Initiative team to provide integrated services to shared clients 
  • Refer clients with immigration legal needs outside of the scope of the program and non-immigration legal needs including wage and hour, tenants' rights, and others 
  • Participate in community based events to outreach and provide information 
  • Provide services on-site and in community locations as needed 
  • Complete comprehensive immigration legal training and attend ongoing professional development training 
  • Complete all required documentation and maintain case files 
  • Track outcomes and complete required data entry 
  • Attend staff meetings and supervision 
  • Collaborate with all CFLSP programs to provide wraparound services and provide additional social services referrals as needed 
  • Opportunity to become a BIA (Board of Immigration Appeals) Accredited Representative contingent on completion of training and eligibility 
  • Other duties as assigned 

II.  QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; or equivalent professional and/or community experience 
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required 
  • Previous experience with community service and/or immigration preferred 
  • Proficient in data entry and MS Office tools 
  • Flexibility to work independently 
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills  
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills  
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities  
  • Availability for occasional evening/weekend work to attend community events  
  • Initiative and drive to learn and excel at the responsibilities described above  

III. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS 

  • Build and maintain close, daily interactions with co-workers and supervisors 
  • Effectively communicate with clients, agency staff and community partners 
  • Excellent engagement skills, meeting clients where they are at and forging mutual respect

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer and meeting on-on-one with clients 
  • Attendance at various internal and external meetings  
  • Travel to CFL and community based sites to conduct workshops 
  • Occasional availability during evening and weekends to attend events  
  • highly collaborative environment 
  • Work location: in person with limited hybrid schedule considered

Compensation: $50,000-$55,000
