Job Description

Dykema Gossett PLLC, a leading national law firm, is recruiting for an experienced Conflicts Attorney in our Detroit office.  The Conflicts Attorney will be responsible for:  assisting with directing and managing of new business intake and conflicts processes to ensure that new clients and matters are opened in compliance with the Rules of Professional Conduct and within firm guidelines and are within the firm’s strategic and financial goals;  responsible for assisting with managing the docket department with responsibility for other risk management duties; and, will work closely with the Director of Risk Management on new business, conflicts, docket and other risk management policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a strong knowledge of ethical, legal and risk management rules and requirements governing law firms.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategy, procedures and practices designed to ensure best risk management practices and improve financial profile of new assignments.
  • Review new clients and matters including: conflict results, engagement letters, relevant waivers, screening walls, research related to new clients and new business intake form responses.
  • Review conflict results related to lateral hire candidates. Prepare memos reflecting potential conflicts and screening memos as necessary.
  • Prepare draft waiver letters and ethical walls as necessary.
  • Assist in monitoring firm’s docket system ensuring compliance with firm docket policies.
  • Assist in training new conflict coordinators and docket clerks.
  • Assist and ensure firm compliance with privacy protections including, but not limited to, HIPAA and identity theft protection.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with outside counsel guidelines provided by clients and maintaining database of such documents.
  • Assist in maintaining materials contained in the Ethics, Risk and Office of General Counsel section of the Dygest.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Three+ years of experience in client intake and conflict resolution process in a mid to large sized law firm.
  • Prior experience utilizing automated conflicts and/or workflow system preferred. Knowledge of Intapp Open a plus. 
  • JD required.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and prepare complex written materials.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively collaborate with management, attorneys and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience in docket preferred.
