The Role
Block is looking for a regulatory counsel to support commercial and consumer banking, and banking and related digital asset initiatives across Block including both Square Financial Services, Inc. (SFS), Square and Cash App products. As SFS expands product offerings, your ideas and contributions will make an immediate and direct impact. A creative legal mind, a solution-oriented thinker, and a desire to expand access to the financial system through building banking products are all required.
You Will
- Provide legal and regulatory advice on our products to members of the Counsel team, business and functional partners on laws and regulations relevant to banking entities and other financial services businesses such as Affiliate Transactions / Regulation W, Regulation D, Truth In Savings Act (TISA)/Regulation DD, Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA)/Regulation E, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), evolving laws in the digital asset and tokenization space and other laws affecting consumer and small business deposit and money movement products and regulated financial institutions
- Advise on legal, regulatory, and industry requirements for Industrial Loan Companies (ILC) and banking partnership products and provide clear and actionable advice.
- Actively cultivate creative ideas and insights into how legal frameworks can support new product developments and customer experiences.
- Manage projects to ensure internal and external resources adhere to the project scopes and implementation plans, including risk mitigation.
- Analyze the impact of new applicable laws and regulations and regulatory enforcement activity to SFS and Block.
- Provide risk-based legal advice to meet business objectives.
- Partner with our business, second line and third line of defense functions and with external advisors and experts.
You Have
- 6+ years experience at a bank, law firm (with bank regulatory experience) financial services fintech and/or financial services regulatory agency.
- Subject matter expertise in commercial and consumer banking business with benefit of experience with banking partner relationships and deposit products.
- Familiarity with launching products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space.
- Strong reviewing and drafting skills; commitment to quality through demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness.
- Ability to organize and prioritize a heavy workload in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines and daily requirements, while maintaining exceptional accuracy.
- Proven success working with all levels of management.
- J.D. Degree in good standing.
- Membership in at least one state bar.
