Derrevere Stevens Black & Cozad, a national law firm with offices in New York and New Jersey, is currently seeking a talented Supervising Attorney to join and manage our New York and New Jersey division of our Subrogation Practice Group. This position offers the flexibility of remote work and promises a vibrant and enjoyable work environment.

Our nationally recognized law firm is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervising Attorney to lead our Subrogation Practice in New York and New Jersey. This role offers the opportunity to oversee a dynamic, high-volume practice with a team of attorneys and paralegal staff, managing complex subrogation matters across various industries.

We are looking for an experienced leader with a strong track record in subrogation and people management. The ideal candidate must possess excellent leadership, mentorship, and team- building skills to guide attorneys and support staff toward achieving exceptional results. The candidate should also have a strategic mindset, ensuring that subrogation cases are handled with precision, efficiency, and maximum recovery potential.

Candidates should possess a minimum of ten years' experience in drafting legal motions, preparing for court proceedings and depositions, analyzing recovery opportunities for plaintiff claims, and communicating effectively with clients and opposing counsel. Valid Bar licenses are required in the states of New York and New Jersey. The ideal candidate will have a background in insurance and trial experience.

The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $300,000, reflecting our commitment to fair and competitive compensation. The actual salary will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership & Supervision: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of attorneys and support staff to drive efficiency, accountability, and professional Provide strategic direction to enhance team performance.
  • Case Strategy & Oversight: Develop and implement litigation strategies for subrogation matters, ensuring the team adheres to best practices and maximizes recoveries.
  • People Management & Development: Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment, implementing training programs and offering mentorship opportunities.
  • Operational Efficiency: Improve workflow, streamline case management, and optimize technology to enhance team performance and productivity.
  • High-Profile Litigation Management: Direct high-value, complex subrogation claims from inception to resolution, including trial oversight where necessary.
  • Legal Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure all cases comply with jurisdictional rules, regulations, and professional responsibility standards.
  • Collaboration with Experts & Engineers: Work closely with forensic experts, adjusters, and engineers to develop compelling liability arguments.
  • Training & Development: Provide ongoing education and skill development for attorneys and paralegal staff to maintain a high level of expertise in subrogation law.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law
  • Admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey (additional admissions are a plus).
  • Minimum 10+ years of litigation experience, with a strong background in
