
Job Summary & Objectives
Simpson Thacher is an international law firm with over 1,500 lawyers. The Firm has an abiding commitment to public service and pro bono work is engrained in its professional ethos. The Pro Bono Coordinator will work closely with the Pro Bono team to support the administration of the Pro Bono Program. This role provides support to the Chief Pro Bono Counsel and Pro Bono Counsel regarding information management, reports, and presentations, and supports members of the Pro Bono team with regard to individual projects, matters and clinics. The role also provides ongoing support to the Firm’s Pro Bono Lawyer in London with exposure to projects and matters throughout the United Kingdom.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Works with Pro Bono team to track and respond to external requests for pro bono assistance
- Provide support to pro bono attorney teams on full scope matters and at clinics, including language interpretation and translation, if relevant
- Provide administrative support at in-person and virtual pro bono events, including clinics, CLE’s and presentations. Work includes client and volunteer registration and check-in, supervising paralegal volunteers, and communicating with Firm’s internal conference and IT services teams
- Provide program support to various ongoing pro bono projects
- Provide research assistance into potential organizational clients
- Assist with the preparation and mailing of client submissions in immigration, criminal justice, and other matters
- Assists with maintaining pro bono database and tracking status of matters (engagement letters, termination letters, criteria sheets/tagging matters, status check-ins)
- Assist in the drafting of the monthly Pro Bono Spotlight, as needed
- Conduct statistical analysis of pro bono work as necessary
- Help maintain billable client collaboration database and materials
- Assist in responding to pro bono surveys and reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Liaise with pro bono coordinators at legal services organizations for planning and monitoring of project implementation and matters
- Assist with preparation of monthly reports to Pro Bono Committee chairs
- Assist with planning and execution of annual Pro Bono Recognition program
- Assist with administrative and planning tasks at pro bono events and legal training programs
- Prepare responses to auditors for pro bono matters
- Help supervise and train summer interns; manage day-to-day activities to ensure accurate and timely work product
- Assist with the preparation of team presentations and promotional materials, including PowerPoints and summary sheets
- Handle due diligence research on potential pro bono clients
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Bachelor’s degree required

Skills and Experience
- 1-2 years of relevant experience providing any type of services to under-resourced communities
- Demonstrated interest in public service and serving low-income communities
- Fluency in oral and written English, second language proficiency a plus
- Excellent organizational skills and a strong aptitude for detail
- Ability to coordinate and work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom and PowerPoint
- Ability to be flexible and to work independently, at times with minimal supervision, as well as in a fast-paced environment with a small staff
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with a variety of people including senior professionals and low-income clients
- Excellent judgment, including sensitivity to confidential information
Preferred
- Prior experience working in a law firm, or in pro bono, legal aid and/or public interest law
Physical Demands (required to perform essential job functions)

Salary Information
NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000 at the time of posting.
The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is non-exempt meaning it is overtime pay eligible.
