- Job Concepts
A mediator within the Public Protection Division addresses inquiries and complaints from the public directed to the Consumer Protection Section of the Louisiana Department of Justice. The mediator works in the Consumer Protection Section under the supervision of the Office Manager with guidance from the Section Chief and the Director of the Public Protection Division to support the Louisiana Department of Justice's consumer dispute process. The qualified candidate will possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to support the Section, be self-motivated, positive cooperative attitude, and have a desire to continuously learn and energy to assist the public.
- Examples of Work
The position of a Mediator may consist of, but is not limited to, the following duties:
- Handle numerous ongoing consumer disputes, ensuring effective resolution and maintaining clear communication throughout the process;
- Upload, organize, and maintain accurate records in relevant databases to ensure proper documentation;
- Answer incoming calls, direct inquiries, and provide relevant information in a professional and efficient manner;
- Read, analyze, and review various documents, including dispute forms, letters, contracts, policies, advertisements, and invoices;
- Actively engage with both consumers and businesses to improve communication, promote solutions, and facilitate compromises;
- Prepare and mail a variety of letters and other official correspondence;
- Identify issues that require referral to other agencies or departments for further handling or resolution;
- Provide support to staff with various assigned projects.
