Position Information

Section:                       Legal Review Section/Civil Law Division


Class:                           Deputy Attorney General I/II/III


Location:                      Harrisburg


Telework:                      This position will report to the headquartered location a minimum of 2 days per week.  You may have the opportunity to telework the remainder of the week, if desired and based on business need.  


Position Type:               Full-time, Non-civil service, Non-union


Work Hours:                  8:30 – 5:00


Salary Range:                DAG I: Pay Range 8 – Starting salary of $65,741

                                        DAG II: Pay Range 9 – Starting salary of $75,208

                                        DAG III: Pay Range 10 – Starting salary of $85,966


Basic Function


An employee in this class provides varied legal services and advice on matters of moderate or significant scope and complexity.   Work involves the practice of administrative law and will require regular interaction with all divisions of the Office of Attorney General, as well as members of the public.  The employee in this position will assist more senior attorneys with responding to: (1) Right-to-Know Law (“RTKL”) requests and (2) complaints filed with the Office under the Agriculture, Communities and Rural Environment (“ACRE”) Law.  As a Deputy Attorney General I or II gains experience, more complex work is assigned and is performed with more independence.  A Deputy Attorney General III will work independently on most matters.  This position reports to the Chief Deputy Attorney General of the Legal Review Section.


Examples Of Duties


  • Assists with the collection, review, and redaction of agency records in response to Right-to-Know Law requests
  • Conducts legal research and prepares the initial draft of RTKL responses
  • Assists with the review of local agricultural ordinances under the Agriculture, Communities and Rural Environment (“ACRE”) Law
  • Conducts legal research and prepares the initial draft of responses to ACRE complaints
  • Assists with legal research on a variety of topics important to the Office of Attorney General
  • Examines and analyzes the legal sufficiency and form of Commonwealth contracts, leases, bonds, and regulations
  • Performs related work as required

Minimum Experience and Training


Deputy Attorney General I:
 

  • Graduation from an accredited school of law and admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania

Deputy Attorney General II:


  • Graduation from an accredited school of law, admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work


Deputy Attorney General III:


  • Graduation from an accredited school of law, admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • General knowledge of administrative, contractual, and/or regulatory law preferred
