Job Description

Who We Are

At Freestone, we believe in making a meaningful difference by focusing on what truly matters to our clients. With a 26-year history of consistent growth and success, we are an independent wealth and asset management firm with over $14 billion in assets under management. Headquartered in Washington, with a team of over 120 professionals, we are dedicated to delivering a highly personalized experience that combines intelligent, thoughtful advice with unique investment strategies and comprehensive financial planning.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced lawyer to join Freestone as Corporate and Regulatory Counsel in Seattle. You will work closely with the General Counsel and the Chief Compliance Officer and gain broad exposure to the firm’s operations. You will be involved in challenging projects within a collaborative and fast-paced environment that values creativity, thoughtful problem-solving, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • The role will be divided between supporting the firm’s business and its regulatory compliance responsibilities. While the amount of time spent in each area will vary depending on particular projects, we expect on average that your responsibilities will be equally divided. This role will be a dual report to the General Counsel and the Chief Compliance Officer.
  • This role will support the firm’s private wealth management business, including IMAs, client negotiations, referral relationships, and acquisition of wealth advisers. It will also support the firm’s alternative funds platform by helping launch new investment funds and maintaining existing funds, including offering and subscription documents. This role may also help support investment activities arising from the investment funds.
  • The role will also support the firm’s CCO with the administration and maintenance of the firm’s regulatory compliance program. The firm is primarily regulated as an RIA under the Investment Advisers Act and is secondarily regulated as a CPO under the Commodity Exchange Act. The firm also manages assets from benefit plan investors regulated under ERISA. Responsibilities will include supporting regulatory exams and audits, helping to monitor regulatory developments and implement policy updates as directed, assisting with the development and testing of policies and procedures, supporting firmwide compliance training initiatives and providing general support on compliance-related projects and initiatives led by the CCO.
  • This role will also support general corporate work. Work will include partnership matters, employment matters, real estate, and commercial contracts.
  • You will work closely with the firm’s business groups to support their legal needs.

Qualifications and Skills

  • J.D. degree and 3-5+ years of law firm or in-house experience in corporate law, including M&A and commercial contracts.
  • Strong interest in compliance-related work and projects, with a desire to build experience and expertise within a regulatory compliance environment.
  • Enjoys working collaboratively across departments and engaging colleagues at all levels of the organization, demonstrating professionalism, respect, and team-oriented approach regardless of title and seniority.
  • Enjoys fast-paced work environments and having ownership over work projects.
  • Flexible and level-headed, with superior organizational and project management acumen.

Why Join Us?

  • The expected annual base salary for this position is $160,000–$240,000, depending on experience and skill set. In addition, the position is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance.
  • Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage, 401(k) matching, life and disability insurance, long-term care, parental leave, accidental death insurance, and flexible spending.
  • Generous paid time off—17 days of PTO to start, 10 paid holidays, and Summer Fridays.
  • Meal perks, company events, team celebrations, and more.
  • A collaborative, fun, and supportive culture where you’re encouraged to innovate and grow.
