Position Title:          Associate Attorney – Employee Benefits
FLSA Status:           Exempt
 
Position Summary: Hinkle’s Employee Benefits team is unequaled in Wichita. This Attorney will provide comprehensive legal support and representation to clients in all areas of Employee Benefits and ERISA. This position requires prior experience and strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the ability to deliver practical and strategic counsel to employers across a range of industries. The Associate Attorney will collaborate closely with partners and clients on matters involving compliance, policy development, and employee benefits. 
The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional legal research and writing abilities, a commitment to professional excellence, and a proactive approach to addressing complex issues. This role offers the opportunity to develop deep expertise in employment law while working within a collaborative and client-focused environment.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains membership in the Kansas State Bar and completes all required Continuing Legal Education requirements on an annual basis.
  • Follows the ethical requirements as set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the State of Kansas and complies with all requirements of the Firm’s professional liability insurer.
  • Provides legal support and guidance and advises clients on Employee Benefit matters  
  • Performs quality work on a timely basis and provides outstanding client service.  Responsible for billing clients for services provided. 
  • Draft a variety of Employee Benefit documents. Ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Stay informed about changes in Employee Benefit laws and regulations. Conduct legal research as needed to support client matters and ensure the provision of up-to-date legal advice.
  • Works collaboratively with paralegals and support staff to ensure efficient and accurate administration processes.
  • Advises and communicates regularly with clients regarding the status of their matter.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to strategize complex cases, provide input on legal strategies, and contribute to the overall success of the firm.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • 3-5 years’ experience preferably in Employee Benefits and ERISA.  
  • Knowledge of law and legal practice in order to perform substantive legal function in client matters as normally acquired through completion of a Juris Doctorate Degree.
  • Strong knowledge of Employee Benefits & ERISA principles and procedures
  • Excellent drafting skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate well, both verbal and written, with a diverse group of clients, attorney’s and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
