Job Description

Title: Assistant Attorney General

Unit: Utility Regulation

Salary Range: $70,000–$85,000

Location: Oklahoma City, OK

Position Summary

The Office of Attorney General’s Utility Regulation Unit represents and protects the interests of the state’s utility customers in administrative and civil proceedings affecting utility rates, charges, and terms and conditions of service. The Attorney General is the State’s principal consumer advocate working to keep utility customer’s rate reasonable and affordable. The successful candidate will primarily advocate for utility customers in proceedings before the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, including researching, analyzing, and presenting complex financial and legal information at trial and through briefing.

The Office of Attorney General is looking for a recently licensed or soon to be licensed attorney who is eager to learn this niche practice area and receive training from attorneys and subject matter experts. The candidate will be expected to first chair some regulatory proceedings within a year of receiving admittance to the bar.

The Office is flexible as to the candidate’s start date. Generally, the successful candidate is expected to begin work summer of 2025 or to begin in an intern capacity January 2025 with goal/vision of promotion to Assistant Attorney General expected upon admission to the bar.

Responsibilities:

  • Researching and reviewing complex data produced by sophisticated companies and subject matter experts
  • Prepare written recommendations based on research
  • Assist with discovery on various cases
  • Communicating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Providing assistance with litigation before the Corporation Commission or other venues
  • Work with in-house and out-of-house subject matter experts to develop recommendations
  • Minor travel is expected
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

A qualified candidate must be a licensed attorney in the State of Oklahoma or eligible to sit for the bar exam by summer 2025. Candidate must be comfortable with learning and practicing trial skills.

  • Writing and oral communication skills;
  • Demonstrate strong, efficient research and analytical skills;
  • Strong time management and organizational skills;
  • Capable of working concurrently on multiple projects;
  • Precision in attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively; and
  • Commitment to being client-focused and responsive to the client.
