Under supervision, to transcribe a variety of material from dictation machine recordings under constant pressure of deadlines; to perform a limited variety of clerical assignments incidental to the major work of transcribing.
The District Attorney's Office is hiring one (1) Transcriptionist - Spanish Fluency. The selected candidate must successfully pass a full background investigation prior to appointment.
Qualified candidates must be Spanish Level II language certified by the County of Santa Clara. Additionally, qualified candidates will be required to take and pass a transcriptionist performance test.- Typical Tasks
- Types case histories, investigation reports, or other legal or technical reports, forms memoranda and correspondence from transcription machines to final form;
- Occasionally types from written copy; arranges typed material according to established formats;
- Searches files and incorporates required information;
- Contacts dictator to clarify garbled or unclear passages on tapes;
- Proofreads typed copy and brings discrepancies to attention of originator;
- Makes copies of and collates typed material with other documents according to established formal presentation;
- May greet visitors to office, respond to routine inquiries, direct calls or visitors to appropriate persons or areas;
- Performs simple maintenance and troubleshooting of office machines;
- Performs related work as required.

Demonstrated training, education or work experience which has provided the following:
Experience Note: The knowledge and abilities necessary to perform as a Transcriptionist are typically attained through at least 2 years experience working in an office setting, with a concentration in typing (keyboarding) and producing written correspondence and reports.
Knowledge of:- Standard typing formats including business letters, tabulated reports, and manuscripts;
- Correct English usage including grammar, spelling and punctuation;
- Basic office practices and procedures;
- Computer applications including word processing.
- Perform clerical tasks of average difficulty requiring a degree of independent judgment;
- Learn specific operations of the office;
- Transcribe and edit dictated reports, correspondence and other material with speed and accuracy under pressure of deadlines using dictation equipment and computer word processing applications;
- Maintain effective work relationships with others;
- Learn a specialized or technical vocabulary (in some positions).
