The Litigation Paralegal provides support in all aspects of client representation, including assisting in representation in discovery, litigation, and preparation for trials. The Litigation Paralegal is responsible for investigating and researching facts as well as preparing legal documents to assist the assigned attorneys on the litigation team. This role is deadline-driven and requires the incumbent to be detail-oriented, highly organized, well versed in both oral and written communication, and willing to work independently and dependably in a team-driven environment.
Essential Duties and Functions
- Assist a practice group of attorneys with individual cases and docket management;
- Calculate, calendar, and track upcoming deadlines, including updating case files with these deadlines and following up with attorneys periodically to assist with assignments related to those deadlines;
- Maintain detailed and organized client records, including reformatting and saving documents, updating and archiving records, and communicating on a daily basis with attorneys and clients regarding these records;
- Draft short correspondence and email communications to clients, attorneys, and internal staff members;
- Gather information from clients and potential clients relating to their legal claims and damages;
- Track and follow up with different forums regarding the status of a case;
- Providing client support in the areas of frequent communication and conducting witness interviews.
- Provide direct support to attorneys preparing for client meetings and assisting during client meetings as well as scheduling, preparing, and assisting during discovery, depositions, hearings, trials arbitration, or other court proceedings.
- Conducting legal research and emailing, mailing, and faxing case-related documents.
Basic Qualifications
- 0-3 years of related experience performing the duties of a paralegal or related position
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
- Excellent written and verbal communications, including providing good customer service
- Proficient at taking notes quickly either by hand or typing
- Proficient at proofreading, editing, and formatting documents
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with different personalities and varying schedules
- Ability to read and annotate large or voluminous sets of documents, including medical records
Education/Certifications
- Bachelor's degree
Desired Skills
- Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is a plus, but not required.
Salary Range: $25.00 - $30.00/ hour
