The District Court Reporter is responsible for recording courtroom activities and producing transcripts of proceedings upon request, in accordance with State statute and Texas Supreme Court rules. This position is responsible for the proper preservation of stenographic notes and filing of all court exhibits. 

Examples of Duties

Produces contemporaneous court records and ensures that records are maintained properly for future retrieval and use.

Purchases and maintains all equipment and software necessary for reporting court proceedings.

Produces transcripts as necessary, involving work with independent contractors.

Preserves electronic files and records; files court exhibits and maintains all court records.

Handles inquiries and requests from various consumers, both internally and externally, in regards to court records and proceedings.

Reads back all or any portions of the court record, performs well under pressure and produces transcripts within strict time limitations as required per statute.

Produces accurate, simultaneous, real-time translation utilizing computer-aided translation and output real-time feed to the Judge on a daily basis.

Understands the TAMES eFile system and be able to electronically file Reporter's Records in accordance with the Uniform Format Manual and statutes governing court reports in Texas.

Consults with colleagues to promote learning and protect the accuracy of records.

Maintains hardware and software to ensure equipment is in proper working order.

Regular and punctual attendance is required. 

Performs other related duties as required. 


Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED, completion of some college level course work, and minimum five years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

Certification as a Shorthand Reporter by the Supreme Court of Texas required.  Certification as a Merit Reporter and Real-time Reporter preferred.
