Job Description
Roblox is looking for an experienced Senior Counsel, Safety Investigations and Law Enforcement to join our Legal team. In this role, you will provide legal advice and guidance to our Law Enforcement Engagement and Safety Investigations teams, including Critical Harms and Special Investigations. You will report to our Senior Product Counsel (Safety).
Location: The position is seated at Roblox Headquarters in San Mateo, CA. Roblox’s mandatory in-office days are Tuesday through Thursday with optional in-office days on Monday and Friday.
You will:
- Legal Guidance & Counseling: Provide timely, accurate, and practical legal advice to the Law Enforcement Engagement, Critical Harms, Special Investigations, and other safety operations teams on complex legal issues arising from safety and law enforcement matters.
- Investigative Support: Advise on the scope, execution, and legal sufficiency of safety-related investigations, ensuring compliance with internal policies, legal requirements, and industry best practices.
- Law Enforcement Response: Advise on legal process, including subpoenas, search warrants, and court orders, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, particularly the U.S. Stored Communications Act (SCA), and international laws governing electronic evidence, compelled disclosure, and privacy
- Policy Development: Assist in developing and updating internal policies, procedures, and training materials related to responding to legal process, government requests, and user safety incidents.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Privacy, Trust & Safety, Public Policy, Litigation, and Product teams related to safety and law enforcement matters.
- Risk Mitigation: Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with platform content, user conduct, and the company's response to emergency safety threats.
You have:
- 7+ years relevant legal experience, with a significant focus on investigations and advising technology companies on issues related to user-generated content, online safety, and legal process
- Deep and demonstrated expertise in the SCA and other U.S. and international laws governing electronic evidence, compelled disclosure, and privacy.
- Proven experience guiding internal and external investigations involving sensitive user safety and platform integrity issues.
- Excellent judgment, strong communication skills (written and verbal), and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

- Member in good standing of the California Bar or another bar association with the ability to register as in-house counsel in California
Preferred Qualifications:
- In-house counsel experience at a technology company is a plus
- Government experience in a role involving investigations, law enforcement, or digital crimes (e.g., prosecutor's office, U.S. Department of Justice, or federal/state law enforcement agency) is a plus
- Experience advising on global law enforcement and regulatory matters outside of the United States.
