DDA III - $114,008.29 - $145,719.87
Salary range if maintaining a residency in Jefferson County
DDA I - $98,484.67 - $125,878.33
DDA II - $108,527.64 - $138,714.76

Distinguishing Characteristics 
This position works under the direction of the District Attorney and Chief Deputy who provides consultation on unusual or difficult cases, department policy and interpretation of such policy, and review of work for conformance to accepted legal practices and standards, and office policy.  

Essential Duties

DDA I: Reviews, prepares, and tries criminal cases in Jefferson County; presents juvenile delinquency cases in juvenile court; provides legal advice to law enforcement agencies and the juvenile department; performs related legal research and writing and other functions as required. Primary caseload responsibility involves misdemeanor-level crimes and violations. Supervision of other specific personnel is not a responsibility of this position.  However, supervisory authority is exercised over staff who participate in document preparation or court presentation.

DDA II: 
Reviews, prepares and tries criminal cases in Jefferson County; presents juvenile delinquency and dependency cases in juvenile court; provides related legal advice to law enforcement agencies and the Community Justice Department; and other functions as required; performs related legal research and writing.  Primary caseload responsibility involves felony and misdemeanor level crimes. Supervision of other specific personnel is not a responsibility of this position.  However, supervisory authority is exercised over staff who participate in document preparation or court presentation.

DDA III: 
Reviews, prepares and tries criminal cases in Jefferson County; presents juvenile delinquency and dependency cases in juvenile court; provides related legal advice to law enforcement agencies and the Community Justice Department; and other functions as required; performs related legal research and writing.  Primary caseload responsibility involves felony and misdemeanor level crimes.  This position is for the fully experienced trial attorney who is also responsible for supervising a trial team consisting of attorneys and staff. Attorneys at this level are expected to competently handle the most difficult cases. This position assists the District Attorney or Chief Deputy in supervising and training the Deputy District Attorneys on a daily basis and provides consultation on difficult or unusual cases and may supervise the entire staff in the absence of the District Attorney and Chief Deputy District Attorney

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills
Knowledgeable in substantive and procedural criminal law; skilled in legal research and writing and use of computer, i.e.: Lexis, Oregon Revised Statutes and Case Law; KRPEL; Word.

Abilities
Ability to analyze facts, evidence and precedents and to arrive at logical conclusions; ability to set forth findings of fact and decisions in concise written forms; ability to prioritize workload and assignments; ability to deal effectively with the public, witnesses, victims and law enforcement personnel.  Ability to give formal presentations to the general public, instruct people in small groups or a 1-on-1 basis, convey technical concepts to others and work as a team.

Physical Abilities
Able to sit at a desk, work at a computer screen and use rapid finger, hand and arm movement for extended periods of time.  Ability to stand and move about Courtroom for extended periods of time.  Ability to speak effectively and clearly.

Education and Experience
DDA I: 
Bachelor's Degree and Law Degree from an accredited law school; knowledge of criminal law and procedures.

DDA II:  Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school with a minimum of 2 years of prosecution or criminal litigation experience.  

DDA III: Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school with 4-6 years of progressively responsible work experience as an attorney.  Preference is at least 1 year experience supervising a trial team.

Licenses and Certificates
Member of the Oregon Bar at the time of appointment and must maintain good standing with the Oregon State Bar through the term of employment.  Must have a valid Oregon Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors and outdoors where some safety considerations exist from physical labor and handling of light-to-medium weight, yet, awkward materials. On-call availability 24 hours a day/7days a week as back up or assistance to District Attorney and Chief District Attorney.

Probationary Requirement
This position is based on the successful completion of a twelve-month probationary period.

This agency is not a Supervised  Practice Portfolio Examination (SPPE) participant.
