Intelligence Analyst

The position advertised has been exempted from the civilian federal hiring freeze. As an FBI Intelligence Analyst (IA), you will lead analysis of criminal and national security threats to the U.S. that helps the FBI, and partners identify threats and inform decision-making. You will apply analytic tradecraft to analyze information derived from our unique blend of law enforcement and intelligence authorities.

Duties

• Review FBI communications to identify and evaluate the intelligence information therein.
• Prepare and disseminate intelligence information while protecting sources and investigations through correct document classification and controls.
• Communicate with various internal and external law enforcement and Intelligence Community (IC) members to gain a better understanding of sources, operations, missions, and requirements.
• Basic analysis to include collation of raw, primary, and secondary data derived from various sources such as automated data base systems, operational intelligence reports, miscellaneous communications, case files, internal and external automation systems, and other sources.
• May participate in interagency committees and meetings as representatives.
• Evaluate incoming reports, information, and performs interpretations and projections under the guidance of senior analysts.
• Prepare basic to complex descriptive and current reportorial intelligence reports to higher-level analysts and superiors in their assigned area of responsibility.
• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, executive orders, and directives promulgated by the Congress, Attorney General, and the Director of the FBI, to achieve goals and objectives.

Salary

• $42,679 - $98,422/year

Conditions of Employment

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain Top Secret-Sensitive Compartmented Clearance (SCI).
• Selectee will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 annually.
• Selectee will be required to complete form FD-877, Request for Access to (SCI).
• Must have a bachelor's degree.
• Must successfully pass a series of assessments, known as the IA Selection Process (IASP).
• Must successfully complete the 12-week Intelligence Basic Field Training Course (BFTC) at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. This is a full-time-in-residence program.
• Must sign a mobility service agreement indicating your willingness to relocate to any field office, based on the needs of the FBI. Applicants may receive relocation benefits based on new office assignment.

Qualifications GS 7: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS 5 grade level. SE is as follows:

• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Assist in the preparation of reports.
• Utilize databases to further research.

GS 9: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS 7 grade level. SE is as follows:

• Research, analyze and assemble pertinent facts into finished reports.
• Utilize computer systems to receive and provide information using database/sources.
• Apply collection methods and techniques/skills relevant to data collection/research.
• Manipulate and exploit data systems to gather information analyze and report findings

GS 11: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 9 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

• Conduct proactive analytical reviews of data to identify patterns.
• Analyze information and make decisions regarding its value and worth to a case.
• Participate in committees and meetings as representatives of an organization or functional unit.
• Provide briefings, intelligence reports, and/or recommendations to management or higher-level staff

GS 12: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of experience at the GS-11 grade level. SE is as follows:

• Guide investigative, programmatic, and policy decisions by the intelligence, policy, and law enforcement communities.
• Manage the collection and dissemination of intelligence information from investigations, sources and contacts to the intelligence, policy, and law enforcement communities.
• Perform liaison duties with other US and foreign government agencies on a wide variety of topics.

Desired Skills:

Desired skills are NOT mandatory and will NOT be utilized to minimally qualify applicants.

• Cyber: Degree(s) or experience in computer science, computer engineering, information assurance/security, information science, data science/analytics, ethical/white hat hacking, telecommunications security, programming/coding or computer forensics.

OR

• National Security: Degree(s) or experience in international relations/foreign affairs, international migration, world religions, homeland security, international law, international finance, or a degree of study in the following areas: Central Asia, China, Korea, the Middle East, Eurasia, Cuba, or Latin America.

OR

• Hard Sciences: Degree(s) or experience in engineering, chemical, biological/agriculture, physics, physical science, electrical, biometrics, biomedical, or forensic science.

OR

• Other: Degree(s) or experience in accounting/economics, geospatial/mapping, social media exploitation, journalism, or psychology/sociology.

Education All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows: GS-7: Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement (SAA) or one (1) full year of graduate level education. (SAA) is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average of 2.95 or higher as recorded on an official transcript, or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3) honor society membership GS-9: Applicant must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. The first step to becoming an IA with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is successful completion of our in-house Basic Field Training Course (BFTC) that lasts 12 weeks in Quantico, VA. While at BFTC, you will have a location menu to rank all 55 Field Offices and Headquarters (HQ) Divisions in Washington D.C in order of preference. Placement will be determined based on your preferences and needs of the FBI. Due to the extensive training requirement for the IA position, candidates who are placed into an IA role from this job opening will be required to complete two years in their first office of assignment before becoming eligible to apply to other positions in the FBI. If you do not pass BFTC, we will attempt to find placement, but if that is unsuccessful, it could result in removal from the FBI.
