Urban Planner Job Details:
Snell & Wilmer is currently seeking an Urban Planner in our Phoenix office. This opportunity will provide experience in working with governmental staff, various ordinances, codes and general plans for a wide range of communities and exposure to the entitlement and land development processes of a variety of municipal and county governments.
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Perform various current planning activities with an emphasis on processing development applications from initial site review through entitlement activities into final permitting and approvals
- Research and review property entitlements and perform thorough due diligence analysis
- Provide technical assistance to clients and their consultants to ensure compliance with various local planning, zoning, development ordinances and design standards
- Prepare applications for rezoning, variances, use permits, annexation, general plan amendment, site plan approval, design review, dedications, abandonments and other various current planning duties
- Act in a project manager role working with client, design consultant teams, project attorney and others to ensure timely processing of entitlements
- Work with public sector staff through the development process
- Assist Attorneys as needed
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Geography, or closely related field or Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree
- Three years of professional planning experience
- Graduate coursework and AICP certification are a plus, but not required
- Knowledge of the common principles, practices, and methods used in Urban Planning
- Knowledge of development topics, and fundamentals of project management
- Ability to interpret local zoning and subdivision ordinances, interpret and respond to client needs and translate them into effective solutions
- Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials and other development professionals
- Must have valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
