Job Description:

The Counsel, Payor Contracting and Practice Operations will serve as a key member of OneOncology’s Healthcare and Operations legal team and will have primary responsibility for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating payor, commercial and healthcare-related contracts for the OneOncology corporate team and the OneOncology network of managed clinical practices. We currently have 25 partner practices on our oncology MSO platform and 4 partner practices on our urology MSO platform through the recently acquired United Urology Group. Counsel,  Payor Contracting and Practice Operations will support the Legal team in protecting the business’ legal interests, maintaining operations within the scope established by law, and will provide hands-on counsel to OneOncology management and practice staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Assist the OneOncology Legal team by reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and closing commercial contracts, including payor agreements, vendor agreements, employment agreements, master service agreements, licensing agreements, and other documents, including healthcare-related agreements, across the OneOncology network as assigned by the OneOncology Healthcare and Operations legal team.

  • Support the OneOncology Healthcare and Operations legal team in providing rapid, practical, business-oriented legal and commercial contract guidance directly to stakeholders.

  • Support business stakeholders in negotiating pricing, deliverables, services scope, warranty, and other commercial terms.

  • Apply innovative problem-solving skills and practical business judgment to maximize revenues, minimize risk, and foster long-term clinical and business partner relationships.

  • Identify complex issues requiring escalation to senior members of the OneOncology legal team.

  • Assist more senior counsel and management in higher level matters, as needed.

  • Collaborate with and facilitate cross-team decision-making among internal OneOncology teams.

  • Work with outside counsel on matters requiring discrete expertise when requested.

  • Manage assigned projects to completion.

  • All other duties as assigned to help drive our mission of improving the lives of everyone living with cancer.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

  • Significant experience in drafting and negotiating payor agreements (preferably on the provider side)

  • Experience in drafting and negotiating general commercial contracts.

  • Familiar with applicable healthcare laws.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Demonstrated success working in a high-performing, results-driven environment.

  • Strong work ethic and proven ability to draft and close commercial agreements with minimal support from senior staff.

  • Attention to detail and superior organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to think and decide quickly, and to communicate legal issues and solutions clearly and concisely.

  • Highest standards of ethics, professional integrity, and discretion.

  • Self-starter with the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to effectively and timely manage workflow, including multiple complex projects in a proactive and highly responsive manner.

  • High degree of cultural and emotional intelligence, and demonstrated aptitude for resilience, flexibility, and ability to adapt to changing circumstances and dynamics.

  • Recognizes the importance of collaboration and the value of a team mindset.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.

  • Member of a state or DC bar.

  • 5-7 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • OneOncology’s legal team is primarily based out of two office locations, in Nashville, TN and northern New Jersey areas. Hybrid work schedule available.

Salary Range: 160K-185K
