Title: Legal Assistant

Contract Term: August 08, 2025 – August 07, 2026 (with option to extend)

Location: US Attorney’s Office,  Dallas Texas 75242

Job Description: The purpose of the one-year contract is to provide the following:

This is a unique opportunity for a recent college graduate considering law school.  Have you ever wondered what it was like to prepare a case for trial?  What goes into creating an opening or closing statement?  How investigations are built?   The United States Attorney’s Office – Northern District of Texas is the leading federal prosecutorial entity within the jurisdiction.  It is a team of lawyers and support staff that believe in the mission of protecting communities.  The ideal candidate is team oriented, driven, customer service oriented, and a multi-tasker with a desire to enhance their law school application.  You will have the opportunity to provide traditional legal assistant duties to federal prosecutors in  the criminal division.  There will be opportunities to observe court proceedings, trial preparation meetings, and learn from seasoned AUSAs how they prepare for trial and conduct investigations.

The contractor shall provide entry level legal administrative specialists capable of performing the following duties after basic training by the USAO on specific office procedures, software programs and equipment:

  • Assist prosecutors and legal support staff in organizing voluminous cases information. Generally, the legal administrative specialists will scan, load, and index documents into a legal case management database. Performs data entry as needed.
  • Assure documents are organized for efficient automated storage and retrieval by preparing appropriate indices, defining data file search criteria and indexing/coding fields. Smaller cases may be paper-based, in which case the legal administrative specialist will maintain the paper case file.
  • Prepare photo boards, maps, charts and other exhibits required for litigation.
  • Assemble trial notebooks for use by prosecutors, judges, defense counsel and witnesses.
  • Work with prosecutors on other special projects related to cases.
  • Interact with law enforcement agents, agency partners, and defense counsel to assist prosecutors in docket management.
