What will you do:
Build the Intellectual Property Portfolio:
Collaborate closely with scientists and engineers to understand opportunities and technical aspects of new innovations.
Draft detailed and comprehensive invention disclosures that capture the novelty and utility of new innovations.
Evaluate prior art searches.
Help scientists and engineers prepare invention disclosures and draft sections of patent applications, including specifications and drawings.
Work with legal counsel to review and refine patent applications, addressing any legal or technical issues before filing.
Maintain detailed records of all invention disclosures and patent applications, ensuring proper documentation and tracking throughout the patent process.
Patent Portfolio and Agreement Management and Strategy:
Build a technical knowledgebase of the landscape for biological and fertilizer technologies.
Develop a robust intellectual property strategy for Product Innovation, with clear strategic milestones to protect the intellectual property for each of the technologies in our pipeline.
Develop and implement a process for management of the Product Innovation patent portfolio and collaborator agreements, ensuring alignment with Mosaic's overall innovation goals.
Maintain a comprehensive and organized system for storing and tracking all agreements and related documents.
Ensure easy access and retrieval of information.
Collaborate closely with legal teams to coordinate all patent filings, including provisional, non-provisional, and international applications.
Ensure timely and accurate submission of all necessary documents.
Develop and implement strategies to protect trade secrets, including identifying valuable confidential information and establishing mechanisms to control access.
Draft, review, and continuously track contract obligations and timelines with universities, companies, and vendors.
Manage the renewal process for agreements, including extensions and amendments as needed.
Manage the Mosaic process for nondisclosure agreement (NDA) and material transfer (MTA) approvals and renewals.
Keep all stakeholders informed of upcoming deadlines and changes.
Evaluate the risks and opportunities, from a Product Innovation standpoint, for all NDA and MTA agreements prior to presenting them to the legal team for legal review and recommendations.
Serve as a technical expert in intellectual property and partnership agreements.
The Intellectual Property Lead will continuously evaluate the patent landscape for Mosaic-relevant intellectual property in Product Innovation.
What will you need:
- Master's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Plant Biology, Chemistry, Agronomy, Engineering required.
- Minimum of 8 years of industry experience, at least 3 years of exposure to intellectual property and/or legal agreements.
- Experience in intellectual property and agreement management, preferably within a Research & Development context.
- Having a scientific background and some experience with patent filings and legal agreements is expected.
- Basic understanding of global intellectual property laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret intellectual property trends and data.
- Highly motivated, creative, and organized.
- Ability to work independently while managing several projects.
- Ability to work across functions and lines in a matrix environment.
- Strong analytical abilities for interpreting scientific results.
- Strong ability to manage relationships within or outside of the organization.
- Excellent presentation, verbal communication, and reporting skills, using a variety of tools and systems.
- Ability to quickly synthesize research data from various sources and deliver key intellectual property insights and make recommendations.
- Microsoft Office Programs, working knowledge of data analysis software and languages, laboratory management programs, and project management tools.
- R, PowerBI, Microsoft PowerApps, SmartSheet experience preferred.
