Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

Robins Kaplan LLP is among the nation’s premier trial law firms, with more than 200 attorneys in several major cities. The Paralegal Intern will be given the opportunity to assist with multiple practice areas, including Intellectual Property, Business Litigation, Medical Malpractice, Personal Injury, Estates and Trusts, Insurance, Appeals, Mass Tort, Class Action, Antitrust, Real Estate, as well as Pro Bono representation. 

WHERE YOU WILL WORK

The intern will be required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. The work schedule is negotiable, but must be during normal business hours, which are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The intern is required to work all hours onsite at our Minneapolis office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Over the average six-week internship, possible assigned tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  • Shadowing paralegals and working independently with guidance from mentors;
  • Interviewing members of various work groups to understand large firm operations;
  • Document coding and tagging in Relativity, or other related e-Discovery tasks;
  • Utilizing databases and electronic document management systems;
  • Supervised preparation of deposition kits and trial exhibits;
  • Summarizing testimony and case records, itemizing damages, and assisting with discovery responses; 
  • Observing hearings, trials, oral arguments, or viewing video-taped depositions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Students pursuing a paralegal certificate program requiring a practical internship

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION

Work is performed in a professional office environment and requires the following during the workday:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time (working at a computer)
  • Must be able to move/traverse about inside the office intermittently throughout the day (attend meetings, access file cabinets, obtain supplies from supply room, etc.)
  • Operate computer and other office equipment such as a copy machine, printer, telephone, etc.
  • Repetitive movement (i.e. heavy computer/keyboard use).
  • Individual will interact regularly with others verbally, in-person, and via written communication.
  • Ability to handle 50 lb. boxes of documents, pieces of evidence and physically arrange and organize case rooms.

In addition to the essential functions outlined above, the employee will provide additional assistance and support as directed by his/her supervisor.

The hourly pay rate for this position is $20.00 per hour.  This is a part-time, non-exempt position eligible for overtime.
