Job Summary:

The Director of Legal and Risk Management is responsible for managing all legal matters affecting the organization. This includes overseeing corporate governance, regulatory compliance, contract management, risk mitigation, litigation, employment law, and providing strategic legal guidance to senior leadership. This person is a key advisor to the executive team and supports business goals by proactively identifying legal risks and developing solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Legal Strategy and Operations

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including commercial leases, vendor agreements, service-level agreements, and licensing deals.
  • Oversee corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and assist with intellectual property management.
  • Assist with legal due diligence and contract negotiations for strategic partnerships and acquisitions.

Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain an enterprise risk management framework tailored to operations at customer locations.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal, operational, reputational, and compliance risks.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure safety standards and liability mitigation, particularly concerning scooter usage, injury claims, and ADA compliance.
  • Manage all insurance programs, claims processes, and interactions with third-party insurers.

Compliance and Regulatory Affairs

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant federal, state, and local laws, including ADA, OSHA, consumer protection, and mobility equipment regulations.
  • Implement and oversee compliance training programs for internal teams and park partners.
  • Represent the company in dealings with regulatory authorities and external counsel.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Build and lead a high-performing legal and risk function; manage external counsel relationships.
  • Provide cross-functional support to sales, operations, HR, and finance teams.
  • Serve as a trusted business partner, balancing legal integrity with commercial pragmatism.

 

Qualifications

Required:

Education & Experience:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Focus on Florida, if possible. 
  • 7-10+ years of experience in a legal and/or risk management role, ideally with in-house counsel experience in a B2B service or equipment rental context.
  • Experience in industries such as hospitality, amusement parks, mobility services, or retail is a strong plus.

 

Skills & Attributes:

  • Deep knowledge of contract law, liability management, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to assess risk in a commercially-minded way.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • High integrity, discretion, and judgment in managing sensitive legal matters.
