SUMMARY: Handles complex cases from start to finish, including structured alternative dispute resolution and/or trial. Typical cases are divorce, custody, modification of existing orders, and enforcement proceedings. Experience in other areas of practice is considered an advantage. Overall performance of a team is paramount and being available to guide associates, paralegals, and legal assistants in the office is a duty associated with this position, in addition to meeting billable requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages Guardianship, child custody, divorce, and other such issues.
• Represents surrogacy related issues, child abuse or child rights, alimony, annulment, spousal abuse, legitimacy, adoption, legitimacy, parental responsibility, and property settlement issues.
• Handle estates and wills.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
• Manages the legal issues that occur between people that are associated with each other or members of the same family.
• Drafts a legal Paper or documents these includes the wills and trust of the person.
• Deals with issues such as adoption, divorce as well as the properties, spousal support of the couple, several issues of child visitation rights and household violence.
• Advises and tells client on the proper action and the right thing to do. If the problems cannot be resolve outside the court then the family lawyer will make inquiries and organize a trial and represents the client to the court.
• Investigates and submits evidence to make legal offense or defense; representation of files in the court and interviewing the witnesses.
• Understands the laws to decide on how to advice their client.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have a Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution and be licensed to practice law in the state.
• 6+ years Family law practice experience, or other type of litigation.
• First-chair family law trial experience, or trial experience.
• Active in business professional groups and Bar associations.
• Ability to mentor, teach, and train associates and paralegals.
• Case management experience and ability to supervise case load of other attorneys and paralegals.
