The purpose of this position is to facilitate the continuing daily operation of the City's Municipal Court and is required to maintain a specialized knowledge of intricate court operations and Texas statutes addressing or affecting offenses within the jurisdiction of the Municipal Court, while possessing strong organizational and basic accounting skills.  This position does not provide direction to other employees.

Essential Functions

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Provides customer service by answering incoming phone calls, responding to questions, providing requested information and documents, processing citations, assisting the public at the customer service windows, setting court dates, processing deferred disposition and driving safety course options, processing compliance options, and receiving payment of fines, fees and costs.
  • Provides administrative services by accurately filing citations and other court documents within the court's established filing system; by maintaining daily operational statistics for data and trending reports; maintaining and balancing a cash drawer daily; and assisting the Municipal Court Administrator, the Court Supervisor, other Deputy Court Clerks, the Municipal Court Judge, Prosecutors and Law Enforcement Officers, as needed.
  • Provides data entry services by entering citation information into the court's case management software system and maintaining the constantly changing status and actions of court cases in the court's case management software system.
  • Prepares sworn complaints against individuals for traffic citations and Class C misdemeanor offenses. Prepares court notices, summons, and subpoenas for service.  Prepares other related documents for trial and/or collection of fines, fees and costs.
  • Corresponds with attorneys and other court-related departments and divisions, in the course of carrying out duties and assignments, by mail, email, fax, and phone.
  • Receives incoming correspondence and requests, requiring acute decision-making skills to determine the appropriate court operation/action to perform or apply to assist in moving court cases accurately through the Municipal Court process.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience
  Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus one (1) or more years of relevant experience. Training in municipal court operations, or a related field is preferred.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
 
 Certification and Other Requirements

  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Special Requirements
  • Must be able to pass required pre-employment screenings, CJIS and fingerprint check, and have the ability to comply with state and federal requirements for Criminal Justice Information Security standards.

  • Working well under pressure and exercise tact in trying situations.
  • Effectively communicating in both oral and written format.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:
