The objective summary of this job classification is to provide fiscal support for the Law Offices of the Public Defender. Incumbents in this position will be primarily responsible for assisting with budget preparation and monitoring, and accounts receivable functions. Examine, analyze and interpret accounting records for the purpose of giving advice or preparing statements. Install or advise on systems of recording costs or other financial and budgetary data.

The Fiscal Services team supports the Law Offices of the Public Defender's constitutional responsibility through our dedication to the following core values: professionalism, customer service, collaborative communication, integrity, accountability, and operational excellence. The role of the Legal Contracts Auditor includes,
- Establish, amend, and process both Professional Services Contracts (PSC) multi-year and Litigation Services Contracts (LSC).
- Monitor, track and report PSC and LSC budgets.
- Assist in development and maintenance of LSC Microsoft (MS) Database including entry and troubleshooting MS Access Database, MS Excel, and LSC spreadsheet.
- Audit, analyze and track litigation services requests, process closures.
- Audit and track litigation invoices in database.
- Research and resolve errors within litigation and contract counsel invoices.
- Provide daily mentorship to the Financial Specialist in procurement process.
- Knowledge of a range of budgetary and financial data related to New Mexico state government.
- Knowledge is typically gained by specialized training and/or experience at lower level Financial Specialist 1, 2, 3, or similar positions.
- Work at this level may involve providing work direction and guidance to employees at lower levels.
- The incumbent will be available as a backup to the Fiscal Director and the Financial Specialist in their absence.
- Perform a variety of routine accounting and auditing functions.
- Understand and comply with state and federal laws, rules, regulations, agency policies and procedures, and generally accepted accounting and auditing standards.
- Prepare and review documents and reports for accuracy and compliance with laws, regulations and standards; analyze, appraise, and make recommendations concerning operational/financial policies and procedures of department/agency; and assist with budget preparation and calculating expenditures.
- Prepare, analyze, and maintain budget and corresponding financial records.
- Conduct business outside of office using a state vehicle.
- Create accounting entries in SHARE for daily deposits.
- Perform related and other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree or four (4) years of directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance and/or budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
