What the Role Is
Babylist is hiring a senior in-house counsel to help us navigate the legal opportunities and risks that come with scale. Reporting to the General Counsel, you'll be a strategic partner to our teams building our eCommerce site and Media business, as well as a key legal advisor to our Supply Chain teams. You will:
- Provide practical, business-forward counseling on product, commercial, and regulatory issues across a fast-moving environment
- Create the legal process for the tech product lifecycle (PRDs, experiments, launch reviews) to embed privacy-by-design and consumer-protection best practices
- Lead and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including IOs, data-sharing, measurement, and platform terms; advise on FTC Endorsement Guides, claims substantiation, testimonials/UGC, and promotional rules
- Build and mature legal systems, processes, and templates that improve speed and consistency (e.g., playbooks, self-serve tools, and CLM workflows)
- Create and maintain scalable templates (MSAs, DPAs), clause libraries, and escalation matrices
- Manage outside counsel efficiently and develop fit-for-purpose engagement strategies
- Deliver training for GTM, Product, and Ops; drive policy updates and legal comms to the business
Who You Are
- 12+ years of overall professional working experience, with at least 3 years at a reputable law firm and 5+ years in-house at a high growth technology company directly advising senior leadership clients on complex commercial, business, and transactional matters
- Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) with membership in good standing in a U.S. State Bar.
- Demonstrated expertise in U.S. privacy laws (e.g., CCPA/CPRA, GDPR familiarity) and experience counseling on adtech, data use, and measurement in media/marketing contexts
- Depth in several of: advertising & marketing law (including endorsements, claims, and promotions), commercial contracting, and data privacy, plus the judgment to spot issues across adjacent areas
- Strong business acumen; you translate legal risk into clear, actionable options aligned with company objectives
- Exceptional communicator and client manager; equally fluent in technical and business contexts; comfortable engaging everyone from senior executives to engineers across varying stakeholder maturity
- Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills; you build trust quickly across functions
- You're comfortable and enthusiastic about working in an AI-forward environment where AI tools are part of daily operations
- Proven ability to lead initiatives, influence without authority, and collaborate in a high-growth environment
How You Will Make An Impact
- Develop and implement the company's overall legal strategy, aligning it with our business objectives and growth plans. Identify potential legal risks and provide proactive guidance to mitigate them effectively
- Provide legal partnership, guidance, and proactive risk reduction strategies to our teams. This includes providing legal guidance to address transformational and day to day business matters such as commercial contracts, privacy, regulatory analysis, etc
- Develop form contracts for use by various business units, and manage the ongoing review, drafting and negotiation of a wide variety of contracts, including client agreements, vendor contracts, and partnerships/influencer agreements. Ensure contracts are aligned with the company's goals and protect its legal and financial interests

About Compensation
We use a market-based approach to compensation. The starting salary range for this role is:
$215,385 to $258,462
Your starting salary will be based on your location, experience, and qualifications, with increases over time tied to performance, role growth, and internal pay equity.
