The Role

Lumen is seeking an Associate General Counsel to join the legal team with the Labor and Employment team,  This role calls for a seasoned legal professional who embodies clarity and courage, with a growth mindset to support enterprise-wide labor matters in North America and provide advice on employment matters to assigned business unit(s).

Schedule and Location

This is a fully remote position open to candidates based anywhere in the U.S. that are actively licensed in the state/jurisdiction they reside. 

The Main Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic advice and legal analyses under labor laws including the National Labor Relations Act, as well as all applicable bargaining contracts. 
  • Provides legal advice and strategic direction on labor issues, including negotiation of collective bargaining agreements, organizing activities and representation elections.
  • Advises HR and business units, including senior leaders, on strategy and potential legal solutions under labor laws.
  • Represents company before the National Labor Relations Board, including the handling of Unfair Labor Practice Charges and responding to petitions and requests for information
  • Oversees labor arbitrations as needed
  • Independently handles employment related issues, such as Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA and FLSA issues; advises business units, including senior leaders, on employment related issues
  • Collaborates with business decision-makers and has deep understanding of the business, its objectives, risk tolerances, labor and relevant bargaining contracts
  • Effectively manages outside counsel and associated costs
  • Responsible and accountable for resource planning
What We Look For in a Candidate
  • JD degree; in compliance with the rules, including licensing rules, of the State Bar in the state where the attorney is officed.
  • 8-10 years of legal practice, with an emphasis on Labor law. 

 

Preferred

  • Experience in negotiation of collective bargaining agreements. 
  • Experience in employment law, including advising on Title VII, ADEA, ADA and similar issues
Compensation

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

Location Based Pay Ranges

$128,310 - $171,080 in these states: AR, ID, KY, LA, ME, MS, NE, SC, and SD.
$135,060 - $180,080 in these states: AZ, AL, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, MO, MT, NM, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY.
$141,820 - $189,090 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, OR, and RI.
$148,570 - $198,090 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DE, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.

As with the pay range variety that's based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.
