Legal Assistant/ Paralegal (Special Services)

Position requires experience in Professional Legal Support Service to attorneys 

Examples of Duties

We are looking for people who are excited to thrive in an environment of impactful change.

  • Monitor details of arraignment outcomes.
  • Gather data information from arraignment attorneys for entry into Smartsheet tracking forms.
  • Support courtroom attorneys with duties including but not limited to : sending redacted evidence to opposing counsel, making contact with complainants and witnesses (via phone call, text message, and email) and being available for jury and bench trial assistance.
  • Contacting complainants at least 48 hours prior to upcoming pre-trial conferences and sentencing hearings.
  • Call filtering and responsiveness for complaining witnesses. Providing information regarding upcoming courts dates and outcomes and taking notes on pertinent additional details provided by complaining witnesses regarding the case for courtroom attorneys.
  • Instructing complainants and witnesses on interfacing with zoom courtroom technologies.
  • Guiding complainants to their assigned courtroom should they appear in person for their court date.
  • Interfacing with defendant and evidence database systems (PBK and Evidence.Com) for sending, updating and reviewing case information.
  • In addition to drafting case notes, text messages and email communications, the paralegal will assist courtroom attorneys in preparing pleading, motions and briefs.
  • Experience with Outlook and Teams.
  • Assisting with trials if needed which includes but not limited to, labeling exhibits, guiding witnesses to courtroom location, questioning complaining witnesses, taking notes during the proceedings, gathering evidence from evidence and defendant tracking systems and organizing trial documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an American Bar Association approved paralegal/legal studies program.
  • Three years of work experience as a Legal Assistant
  • OR
  • Associate degree with specialization in paralegal studies from an American Bar Association approved institution.
  • OR
  • Two years of work experience as a Legal assistant.
  • OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with specialization in paralegal studies, legal studies, or legal administration from an American Bar Association approved institution.
  • Six months of work experience as a Legal Assistant.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirements of this position.
