OGC provides legal advice and services to the Director and AO staff, judges, senior court officials, and the Judicial Conference and its committees. OGC renders legal opinions and provides advice on a wide range of issues in federal judicial administration.
Duties The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AO), Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel to support the AO and the courts on personnel law matters and ethics. This position focuses on employee relations matters, including disciplinary actions and claims of employment discrimination, employment litigation before administrative bodies or, in coordination with the Department of Justice in federal court, and compliance with the Judiciary and AO's Employment Dispute Resolution Plans and Fair Employment Practices System. The incumbent must have excellent legal research and analytical skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly; plan, organize, and work effectively under demanding circumstances and time constraints; identify and resolve problems effectively; and communicate effectively with AO management, judges, and other Judiciary personnel on sensitive issues. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Performing legal research and providing advice on employment law or other matters to the AO, Judicial Conference and its committees, judges, and senior court officials. Responding to inquiries from judges, court executives, human resources personnel and other Judiciary officials on a wide range of subjects. Representing the Judiciary in personnel disputes before administrative bodies. Coordinating with the Department of Justice in defending the Judiciary in personnel disputes in federal court. Reviewing, developing, and updating policy in the Guide to Judiciary Policy and the AO Manual. Salary- $120,579 - $195,200/year

Bar Membership: Applicants must currently be an active member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or a federal court of general jurisdiction. Post J.D. Experience: Applicants must also possess at least 3 years of post J.D. experience.
Specialized Experience: Subsequent to graduation from law school, applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience must demonstrate experience in ALL areas defined below:
- Providing legal advice in the areas of employment law, including disciplinary actions or employment discrimination, as a practicing attorney.
- Producing and presenting documented, clear, and well-written analysis, including legal arguments and briefs, on complex and sensitive issues.
