Job Description

SALARY GRADE: Flat Rated

The Office of the District Attorney, Prosecutorial District 7, which consists of Bertie, Halifax, Hertford, and Northampton counties, is seeking a qualified administrative assistant to assist in preparing cases for trial and in expediting the criminal court docket, and other duties as assigned. The administrative assistant will perform administrative and paralegal functions in the office and may supervise clerical support staff.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate the daily administrative operations in the office.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public and resolve problems related to criminal court matters.
  • Maintain or supervise office record keeping and forms processing activities.
  • Prepare legal documents.
  • Review case reports and defendant case files to assure they are complete for trial; obtain additional case information when needed.
  • May assist in developing court calendars.
  • May respond to requests for case continuances.

Salary
  • $48,273 - $73,175/year
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Knowledge of: office management practices and procedures, court system practices, forms and procedures; NC General Statutes apply to DA/PD's office to prepare legal documents and forms.


Ability to:
communicate effectively and to maintain cooperative working relationships with court officials, defendants, and the public; locate and compile information from different sources for case files; learn and apply laws to different situations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma and five (5) years of legal secretarial or administrative office management experience; or completion of a two-year associate degree in Secretarial Science or a Certified Paralegal program and three (3) years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
