
- Job Responsibilities
The person in this position will be responsible for management of educator misconduct cases by reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses, preparing cases for trial and presenting cases, negotiating consent agreements, drafting orders, and presenting cases to the State Board of Education. Prepare records and arguments for appeals to the Administrative Law Court. Develop expertise regarding laws and policies that impact students with disabilities, i.e., Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, etc. Assist in the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE’s) implementation of the dispute resolution systems under the IDEA. Respond to court subpoenas and information requests from other state agencies. Under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent for Legal Affairs, provide legal research on various issues. Perform other duties as assigned.
This position is located in the Office of General Counsel.- Minimum and Additional Requirements
A juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney. Member of the South Carolina Bar. - Preferred Qualifications
Juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school. SC Bar membership.
