Position Summary:
The Legal Technical Writer is responsible for creating, editing, and managing legal documents, technical materials, and content that support organizational compliance, litigation, or regulatory needs. This role requires a meticulous approach to research, drafting, and formatting legal and technical information to ensure accuracy, clarity, and accessibility for intended audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Document Creation and Maintenance:
Draft, edit, and proofread a variety of legal and technical documents, including contracts, policies, manuals, and regulatory filings.
Translate complex legal jargon into clear, concise, and user-friendly language while preserving legal accuracy.
Develop templates and style guides for consistent document formatting.
Legal Research and Analysis:
Conduct research to gather relevant laws, regulations, and legal precedents.
Analyze legal and technical materials to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with legal teams to verify content accuracy and compliance.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work closely with attorneys, compliance officers, and subject matter experts to gather information and ensure document alignment with legal standards.
Liaise with technical teams to integrate legal content into technical frameworks, as necessary.
Regulatory and Compliance Documentation:
Prepare reports, summaries, and documentation required for audits, regulatory submissions, or litigation support.
Monitor changes in regulations and update documents to reflect compliance requirements.
Content Management:
Organize and manage a repository of legal and technical documentation for easy retrieval and version control.
Ensure documents are securely stored and access is appropriately restricted.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Pre-Law, English, Technical Writing, Communications or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in legal writing, technical writing, or a similar role.
Strong understanding of legal terminology, document formatting, and compliance standards.
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Proficiency in document management systems and legal research tools.
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with regulatory environments such as GDPR, HIPAA, or other industry-specific standards.
Certification in technical writing or legal writing (e.g., CPTC).
Experience with document automation software.
