Job Description

Weber & Olcese, P.L.C. is seeking a qualified Legal Assistant to join our expanding Insurance Defense Practice Group. This position offers the opportunity to be part of a fast-growing division within our firm that has established itself as a trusted partner to multiple insurance carriers in just three years. About the Role

As a Legal Assistant, you will support a team of attorneys, paralegals, and staff in managing complex insurance defense matters. You will be responsible for preparing court filings, managing case calendars, assisting with trial preparation, and serving as an essential link between attorneys, clients, courts, and carriers. This role requires attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and prior experience in litigation support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, proof, and format pleadings, discovery responses, and legal correspondence.
  • Manage e-filing in Michigan circuit court, district court, and federal court systems.
  • Maintain case files, including scheduling deadlines, hearings, and trial dates.
  • Assist attorneys with deposition and trial preparation, including exhibits and witness materials.
  • Coordinate communications with courts, clients, and insurance carriers.
  • Manage calendars and diary deadlines, hearing dates, depositions and trials.
  • Support Senior Partner team and provide additional litigation support as needed in a fast-paced team environment.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a legal assistant in insurance defense litigation.
  • Hands-on experience with circuit court, district court, and federal court e-filing.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and legal case management systems (Clio).

Preferred:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree, or Paralegal Certificate.
  • Experience supporting multiple attorneys in a litigation practice.

Other Work Requirements:

  • Successfully pass pre-employment testing including criminal background check, credit check and drug testing.
