Section:                   Charitable Trusts and Organizations Section/Public Protection Division


Class:                       Legal Assistant I


Location:                  Philadelphia


Telework:                 This position will report to the headquartered location a minimum of 3 days per week.  You may have the opportunity to telework the remainder of the week, if desired and based on business need.


Position Type:          Full-time, Non-civil service, Union


Work Hours:            8:30 – 5:00


Salary Range:          Starting salary of $40,685



Basic Function


This Legal Assistant I position within the Charitable Trusts and Organizations Section provides administrative support to the Deputy Attorneys General and investigative staff in the Philadelphia regional office.  


Examples Of Duties


  • Proofreads documents and correspondence to ensure that information is grammatically correct, complete, and consistent and adheres to agency rules and regulations
  • Opens, maintains, closes, and archives cases
  • Drafts correspondence and first drafts of pleadings
  • Assists with document review in litigation cases
  • Assists with filing documents in local courts
  • Assists with compiling exhibits for court pleadings
  • Coordinates travel arrangements for assigned attorneys and investigators
  • Processes all incoming and outgoing mail
  • Prints, scans, and copies documents
  • Processes travel reimbursements for assigned attorneys and investigators
  • Uploads scanned documents into a database
  • Answers phones for the Charitable Trusts and Organizations Section and transfers calls to the appropriate attorney or investigator
  • Operates a desktop computer, scanner, printer, and copier and sends faxes
  • Processes payment requests for filing fees
  • Schedules depositions and/or court reporters
  • Reserves conference rooms
  • Provides coverage for the receptionist during breaks and lunches on a rotating schedule
  • Performs other duties as required

Minimum Experience and Training


  • Three years of responsible clerical, enforcement, or investigative work OR
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training
