Job Summary:

Alkegen is seeking a Sr. Paralegal to join our Legal Services team. This position will have primary responsibility for patent and trademark matters, together with responsibilities related to the protection of confidential and trade secret information.  Further, the role assists in risk management related to the Company’s insurance portfolio.  As the Sr. IP & Data Protection Paralegal, you will work closely with other members of Legal Services, the Research and Development team, executives, outside counsel and other key stakeholders to ensure proper intellectual property management and protection of the Company’s data. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Dedicated legal partner to the Research and Development team 

  • Manages processes associated with patent and trademark, competitive landscape analysis, infringement analysis, and freedom to operate opinions

  • Liaisons with outside intellectual property counsel and internal business clients

  • Oversees management of maintenance fees and annuities, including renewal decisions

  • Creates, reviews, revises and negotiations all Company non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements

  • Create reports related to patent and trademark portfolios, in addition to related fees and costs

  • Support new product development teams in assessing the cost and commercial benefits of new product launches

  • Review vendor invoices for intellectual property related costs for accuracy

  • Manages intellectual property aspects of acquisitions and divestitures, including integration activities

  • Secondarily, manages administrative aspects of the Company’s insurance portfolio

  • Must be knowledgeable in the effective use of continuous improvement tools and concepts to assist in process improvements, both within Alkegen, and externally at our outside counsel partners and customers/suppliers. Serve as an active participant in continuous improvement activities

Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • B.S. degree in related field preferred; ABA approved paralegal certificate

  • 5-10 years’ experience working as a paralegal in the area of intellectual property

  • Prefer experience working as a paralegal in the area of intellectual property

  • Must be able to work independently

  • Candidate must demonstrate an acute attention to detail, proficiency in proofreading, with excellent organizational skills.

  • Must be able to manage a number of legal projects while multi-tasking

  • Must have exceptional project management skills and abilities

  • Must have the ability to work with internal clients comprising department heads, managers and subject matter experts

  • Must also have excellent skills using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Must maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times and be a trusted member of the legal department
