
Job Description
Marco’s is seeking a detail-oriented Compliance Paralegal to support and complete the franchise compliance workflow within our Legal Team. This role involves working closely with franchisees and business partners, ensuring compliance with franchise documentation, litigation support, and lease management. The Compliance Paralegal will also assist in regulatory matters and perform various administrative and legal tasks as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities
Franchise Compliance & Documentation
- Complete franchisee requests for documentation associated with financing, including SBA forms, bank subordination agreements, and copies of franchise documentation.
- Liaise with the contract team regarding lender-requested changes to franchise documents.
- Conduct compliance and legal reviews for all franchise renewals, including data collection and follow-up with stakeholders.
- Audit the franchise database periodically to ensure compliance and identify documentation gaps.
Litigation Support & Legal Administration
- Provide litigation support to internal counsel, including discovery, calendaring response/hearing dates, and maintaining case files.
- Monitor and respond to service of process, subpoenas, garnishments, EEOC claims, workers' compensation matters, and other legal requests.
- Issue and track litigation holds, ensuring compliance with legal preservation requirements.
Lease & UCC Management
- Monitor all company-managed store leases, communicate key deadlines, and assist with lease renewals and assignments.
- Manage franchise lease compliance, including preparing site approval letters and collecting executed leases with approved Marco’s Lease Riders.
- Notify stakeholders of franchise lease defaults, issue necessary notices, and drive resolution.
- Prepare and file UCC financing statements, monitor renewals/transfers, and ensure compliance with filing requirements.
Legal Support & Compliance Monitoring
- Maintain the legal budget, approve invoices, and enforce billing guidelines with outside counsel.
- Prepare agreement commencement letters for each store upon triggering events.
- Provide general legal support, including research, reporting, and administrative assistance to the Legal Team.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
- Minimum: Associate’s Degree (Paralegal Studies or related field).
- Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree.
Experience:
- Minimum: 4-6 years of experience in a legal or compliance-related role.
- Preferred: Experience in franchise compliance, contract management, or real estate law.

- Proficiency in legal research and writing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Adobe, PowerPoint, Outlook, and ability to learn new systems.
- Knowledge of franchise law, contract management, and lease agreements is a plus.
