The General Litigation Associate will work as a member of the firm’s General Litigation Practice Group. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with strong analytical skills who is able to think critically on both a macro and micro level. Strong attention to detail is a must. CMBG3 Law is a fast-paced environment, and the General Litigation Associate will be expected to immediately take point on cases in various stages of litigation.
Position Title: General Litigation Associate
Reports To: Partner
Responsibilities:
- Draft pleadings, original motions, bench memoranda, briefs, and other litigation-related documents on complex matters
- Prepare discovery requests, discovery objections, and substantive discovery responses to be served at various parties (with identification of relevant documents to be produced, when applicable)
- Interview and prepare witnesses for testimony in litigation or before regulatory bodies
- Take and defend lay, expert, and corporate representative depositions
- Effectively communicate with senior attorneys and clients to understand client concerns
- Foster client relationships through consistent and clear oral and written communication
- Participate in mediations and/or court-mandated status conferences, settlement conferences, hearings, and other court proceedings; argue motions as necessary
- Evaluate risk analysis to incorporate into drafting pre-trial reports
- Develop overall strategies for case resolution and solve problems creatively by using sound legal judgment and drawing on the knowledge, skills, and experience of other members of the General Litigation Practice Group
- Demonstrate strong writing skills by analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating case facts and relevant case law that is presented in a persuasive manner
- Negotiate settlements with plaintiffs and other opposing parties
- Work both independently and as a committed and trusted member of a case team
- Identify, assign and supervise work for case paralegals
- Seek out networking opportunities to develop client relationships
- Show leadership in the local community through committee memberships in bar associations and other organizations
- Connect with members of the other firm Practice Groups to cross-market and develop new client relationships and/or strengthen existing ones
- Must meet annual billable requirements and adhere to the Attorney Timekeeping Policy
Job Requirements:
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Admittance to at least one state bar
- Minimum of 3 years of litigation experience in a law firm
- Skilled in tracking and documenting billable hours for input into the billing system
- Experience in mass-torts, class actions, environmental, commercial litigation, abuse, harassment and discrimination, or other complex risk management
- Client-service oriented with experience interacting with clients
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
- Demonstrates a courteous and professional demeanor
- Possesses superior written and oral communication skills
- Able to work under pressure
