Job Summary:

Real is seeking a Product and Regulatory Counsel to join our Legal team. The role will play a crucial role in advising on legal and regulatory risks associated with the company’s financial products, specifically within its Real Wallet program. This position requires you to navigate the complex legal and regulatory landscape of the fintech industry, helping to ensure compliance while enabling the company to innovate and move quickly. You will work closely with internal product, business, and marketing teams to address legal challenges and mitigate risks, fostering a collaborative, solutions-driven environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Legal & Regulatory Counsel: Provide guidance to product and business teams throughout the product development lifecycle, ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Risk Identification & Mitigation: Proactively identify potential legal and regulatory risks and collaborate with business partners to propose practical, business-focused solutions.

  • Commercial Agreements: Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements that support product development and enterprise-wide initiatives.

  • Industry Knowledge: Stay updated on the latest laws, regulations, and trends within the fintech and financial services industries, particularly consumer protection laws.

  • Collaboration with Marketing: Work closely with the marketing and go-to-market teams to ensure that all consumer-facing materials and campaigns comply with legal and regulatory standards.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with the broader Legal & Compliance team on various corporate and enterprise-wide initiatives as needed.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, particularly within the fintech or financial services sectors.

  • In-depth knowledge of consumer protection laws and regulations, including but not limited to TILA, RESPA, ECOA, FCRA, BSA/AML, UDAAP, and GLBA.

  • Ability to anticipate, identify, and address legal and regulatory risks with a strategic, business-oriented approach.

  • Experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, particularly in the context of fintech products and services.

  • A strong willingness to learn new technology and the digital tools used within the fintech space. Digital fluency or the ability to quickly understand tech concepts is essential.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel).


Education and Experience:

  • Degree in Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

  • 10+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, focusing on regulatory compliance within the fintech or financial services industry.

  • Practical experience with consumer protection laws (TILA, RESPA, ECOA, FCRA, BSA/AML, UDAAP, GLBA).

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and advising on technology and product initiatives.

  • Any relevant certifications, such as fintech certifications, bar admissions, or other regulatory qualifications
